In The Netherlands where bicycle transportation is a way of life, the obvious choice of a reliable drivetrain is the internal hub system because it can be used in any type of weather and needs very little maintenance.

For a folding bike, we believe that the internal gear hub presents many advantages over the derailleur system. There is no risk of grease on pants, no more concern about possible derailment of the chain, no jumping/skipping/autoshifting as often with a derailleur, no fragile tension pulley.

Our bikes are fitted with the classic and popular Sturmey Archer hubs with integrated drum brake; the 3-speed hub has a gear range of 177%, the 5-speed of 255%. On the 3-speed Smart2, the bottom gear has a 3.20m development, the top gear 5.80m. The AMiiVA Quartz development is 8.80m for the highest gear with a 48×13t.

The Sturmey-Archer hub delivers accurate and smooth shifting with well-spaced gears, and an easy to use control gear with twist shifter. This multi-gear system is the right choice for every day riding in the city or touring in the countryside.

AMiiVA's drivetrain is complemented by a high quality crankset with chain guard, detachable 4-arm spider, 44t to 48t chainrings as well as a Teflon treated chain and a pair of light weight folding pedals.
